Peter Gutwein
Strategic Advisor, Former Tasmanian Premier and Treasurer
The Hon Peter Gutwein the former Tasmanian Premier and Treasurer, Climate Change Minister and Tourism Minister was arguably at the peak of the Covid pandemic Australia’s most popular political leader with the highest ever recorded satisfaction/approval rating in a Newspoll of 90%.
As Premier, he led Tasmania through the last two years with his firm no nonsense style ensuring that the State was one of the safest places in the country and indeed the world with one of the strongest performing economies.
Peter Gutwein was also State Treasurer since 2014. Tasmania was well positioned financially to weather the pandemic and the State has led the Commsec State of the State’s economic rankings for the last nine quarters in a row with the best performing economy in the country.
Whilst Premier, Tasmania achieved the extraordinary goal of being able to generate 100% of its energy needs from renewable sources and as the State’s first Premier to hold the Climate Change portfolio, he introduced legislation to set the States net zero emissions target at 2030 – one of the most ambitious targets in the world.
He held the seat of Bass for 20 years before sensationally bowing out of politics when at the height of his popularity in April 2022 to spend more time with his family.
Peter Gutwein is a nationally experienced leader, the financial architect of the fastest growing economy in the nation and someone who calls it as he sees it.
